Why They Give: TD Colleagues Celebrate the First Giving Tuesday Now

New COVID-19 Relief Colleague Matching program truly personifies One TD

TD Bank believes that joining together to give assistance is the most powerful way to help our communities. It's why we're excited to celebrate Giving Tuesday Now, a new global day of giving and unity in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

The new celebration supplements the original Giving Tuesday during the first week of December.

To celebrate, we spoke to a few of our colleagues who recently donated to one of the three organizations we're supporting as part of our COVID-19 Relief Colleague Matching Program, which was launched last month to help raise funds for response efforts and provide much needed financial support to our community partners.

Between now and May 21, TD will match colleagues' individual voluntary donations of $25 up to $1,000 for a total up to $500,000. Employees can choose to designate their donations to the United Way, the American Nurses Foundation and Rise Against Hunger.

Our new giving program— created based on colleague recommendations and requests for ways to get involved during the current pandemic – truly demonstrates the meaning of One TD, and how the bank came together to find new ways to help give back and mitigate the impact of the virus.

"I was quite moved when I received the note about TD's commitment and the matching program," said Mia Levine, TD Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer and Head of AML US P&C, based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.  "It's that commitment to community that drew me to TD six years ago."

Jodi Elliot, a TD Project Manager for Enterprise Risk Management in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, was particularly excited about the three organizations that our matching program is benefitting.

"It is great to have three terrific organizations," Jodi said. "I hope that many employees take the time to submit a donation. Even submitting a $25 donation can really make a difference."

Cynara Charles-Pierre, TD's Head of Employee Engagement in New York City, noted how she felt a partnership with TD as the bank was able to perform the work in "shepherding" her contribution to where it was most needed.

"When something so big and as devastating as COVID-19 happens in society, as a citizen you are often at a loss for how to make a positive and significant impact," Cynara said. "You want to do more than stay home to help flatten the curve. You want to give back, but then wonder if your few dollars will really help, and sometimes don't know what organizations have been vetted. With our Employee Matching donation program, I know that what I can afford to contribute will be doubled, therefore making a much bigger impact than I could do alone."
