"Research shows that 62% of global consumers believe it's the responsibility of companies to act with purpose and to make the world better through their business."

That's what Joe Doolan, TD Bank's Head of Environmental Affairs, revealed as part of his "fireside chat" at the Companies vs. Climate Change Conference on November 29 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, Fl.

Since 2016, the Companies vs. Climate Change Conference has invited leaders from companies across the U.S. to share best practices for solving climate change with wholly justifiable business value. At this year's event, Doolan discussed how TD is leading the charge with The Ready Commitment, TD Bank's community giving platform targeting a total of CDN $1 billion by 2030 towards four areas critical to building an inclusive future – Financial Security, a more Vibrant Planet, Connected Communities and Better Health.

"TD has a long tradition of community volunteering," Doolan said in his remarks. "But with this renewed energy around The Ready Commitment and a growing class of the conscious consumer, we are seeing the energy for this grow. Our Employees are excited to see that TD is doing more – and they're more engaged because of it. Our aspiration through The Ready Commitment is to link our business, philanthropy and human capital."

Doolan also touched on topics such as sustainable investing, diversity and inclusion, and why it's important for companies to make a commitment to enriching their communities.

"In launching The Ready Commitment this year, we believe corporations have a critical role to play in insuring a healthy future by helping to maintain a Vibrant Planet," Doolan said. "By sharing sustainability best practices and bringing forward innovative solutions to climate change, the business community can bring considerable resources to winning the fight to preserve our environment."

Giving back to the community

As part of TD Bank's participation in the conference, bank employees organized volunteers to plant trees on nearby Virginia Key to help rebuild that wildlife area, which was heavily impacted by Hurricane Irma in 2017. Photos from the event below:
